GemEx History

GemEx is a Wisconsin corporation founded in 1998 to develop technology based analytical instruments and services for the gem and jewelry industry.  Based on research started in 1994, the founders, Randall M. Wagner (BSEE, MSEE) and Kurt Schoeckert (BSME) created a unique patented light measurement technology, the BrillianceScope®, that for the first time allows diamonds and gemstones to be objectively evaluated and compared on the basis of their visual attributes. GemEx’s business model is based on selling its proprietary diamond certification reports, called Light Performance® reports, and related products.

Since 2001, GemEx Light Performance® Certificates have become an integral feature of many diamond branding initiatives launched by major retailers world wide. GemEx technology supports premium branded diamonds in four of the top five specialty jewelry retailers in North America, many independent jewelers, and top retailers in Asia and China.

In addition to its Light Performance  brand certificates,  GemEx supports the diamond retailers with specialty value-add products that enhance the communication of diamond value and beauty, including it’s in-store BrillianceScope Viewer, and online interactive GemEx Live Report.

Beginning in 2008, GemEx acquired proprietary technology rights to focused ion beam (FIB) milling gemstones for the jewelry industry in a cross-license agreement with a leading world-wide diamond company.  GemEx now offers nano engraving of gemstones for branding and security, and has patented new nano-scale engraving technology, including its HD Viewer.

Today, GemEx is the global leader in diamond Brilliance, Fire and Sparkle certification. GemEx certification services and products are sold in over fifteen countries world-wide.  And, GemEx offers customer support through affiliated service centers in Belgium, Israel, India, Thailand and PR China.
