E-Newsletter Gemex Header

Dear Valued GemEx Customer:

Each month we will be sending out a newsletter highlighting commonly asked questions about the operation of the BrillianceScope. This month we will focus on why diamonds are rejected for bad separation, below performance standard and duplicates.

Please let us know if you have any suggestions for topics we should cover in future months.

Best Regards,
The GemEx Team

Rejected Reason: Bad Separation

This occurs when the default separation is incorrectly set, or when the separation needs to be temporarily adjusted for the diameter)of the stone currently being scanned. When the separation is not set correctly, the outline of the stone is incorrectly detected. Incorrectly adjusted separation may also cause a scan to be rejected for Wrong Shape. Please refer to the following document for example images of Bad Separation and instructions to change the separation value by clicking on the link: Adjusting the Separation Value

Rejected Reason: Below Performance Standard

This applies for companies that have minimum performance standards for the diamonds. Examples currently in use are:

  1. All three scales must be high or better to pass.
  2. Two of the scales must be at least medium while the third must be high or better to pass, but if any of the scales are very high the other two scales can be anywhere to pass.

If these performance requirements are a regular standard, we can program our Quality Check system to automatically reject scans that do not meet these requirements. Stones rejected for ‘Below Performance Standard’ usually require the stone to be re-cut for better performance, depending upon the company’s policy.

Rejected Reason: Duplicate

Scans rejected for ‘Duplicate’ can be one of two reasons:

  1. Two or more different scans with the same stone ID were submitted for approval at the same time, so we are unable to determine which scan to make a report for.
  2. Two or more scans with different stone IDs are actually the same stone rescanned. We believe this typically happens when the BrillianceScope Analyzer operator forgets to put the next stone in before scanning, so the same stone is rescanned.
